Matt and D-Sisive - illustration by Nate Schmold. Yes, D-Sisive really does have a cool mustache, just like the illustration.

Join me this Sunday, February 5th, at 4:30 Eastern for a super special hang with D-Sisive.

Ground-Up Governance is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

Out of all the hundreds of people who’ve influenced my musical journey over the past 30+ years, none have been more important than my super-close friend, Derek Christoff (AKA D-Sisive). We met in high school back in 1995ish right when we were both just starting our respective musical adventures. He’s hosting a live stream on Sunday Feb 5th starting at 4:30pm Eastern where he’ll reveal his latest EP and do a short live performance, followed by an interview conducted by yours truly (Matt). For more about D-Sisive and his history, check out this recent interview in Complex. Or just do some Googling.

Derek is offering discount admission to all Ground-Up Governance subscribers - $10 instead of the usual $25, including a high-quality digital copy of the new EP.

More details below, in Derek’s words:

My name is Derek Christoff (aka D-Sisive), and I’m a 4x Juno Award nominated hip-hop artist from Toronto. After an 8-year hiatus, I’m back to releasing music again. I wanted to challenge myself, as well as avoid the conventional “one album per year” path of releasing music. I also wanted to make my return more exciting for my fans, so I’m releasing two 5-song EPs per month for an entire year. With the EPs, I also include an exclusive podcast episode covering the creation process of that month’s EP as well as an exclusive listening session via Zoom where subscribers listen to the EP for the first time with me, followed by a Q&A. The first two Zoom sessions lasted longer than three hours because we had so many questions! This month, I’ll be adding a live performance and interview portion.

To register, please send $10 via e-transfer (Canada only) or PayPal to orvilleknoblich@gmail.com, and be sure to include your email address in the message section and mention you’re a Ground-Up Governance subscriber. Derek will send you the Zoom link on Saturday Feb 4th and a download of the new EP on February 19th.

If you want more info, email me at matt@groundupgovernance.com. Otherwise, see you Sunday!

P.S. Ground-Up Governance illustrator

Nate Schmold
is a rapper too. He remembers opening for D-Sisive in 2009, back when we were all young and adorable.
